Injectables Wrinkle Treatment Options

One of the most effective ways to help the eye area look more rested and refreshed is through injectable wrinkle treatments such as BOTOX, Dysport, and XEOMIN. At his Jupiter practice in South Florida, board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Jason Cooper performs all BOTOX-type injections himself. His expertise with injectables is reflected in his authoring of several book chapters on BOTOX and dermal fillers.

BLOG: How Long Do Injectables Last?

Speaking From Experience

“I choose to perform all injections myself because I want my patients to receive the level of care I’d give to my own friends and family. My extensive experience with these products allows me to create results that take years off of a patient’s appearance without an unnatural or ‘worked on’ look.”

What Is BOTOX?

Injections for Worry Lines and Frown Lines

BOTOX, Dysport, and XEOMIN are all products made of a purified form of botulinum toxin that, in controlled doses, limits the ability of muscles to contract. There are subtle differences between the 3 products, but they essentially share the same mechanism of action. Certain wrinkles, called dynamic wrinkles, are caused by repeated facial expressions, and respond well to injections of these products. When precisely injected with the neurotoxin, the muscles that cause crow’s feet, frown lines, and forehead furrows are temporarily immobilized, giving your skin a smoother, more youthful appearance.

BLOG: What is Botox, Where Should it be Injected and do I Need it?

Women and men considering injections of BOTOX, Dysport, or XEOMIN usually have one or more of these concerns:

  • Deep vertical lines between the eyes (frown lines)
  • Horizontal lines across the forehead (worry lines)
  • Crow’s feet at the outer corners of the eyes

Customizing Your Procedure

Dr. Jason Cooper’s training and experience with injectables, including BOTOX and fillers, allow him to precisely target areas in the forehead and around the eyes. A thorough understanding of facial anatomy is key to achieving results that look natural, but noticeable. He can also recommend complementary non-surgical procedures, such as dermal fillers, that will help achieve an overall facial rejuvenation.

Although BOTOX is the best known of the 3 products, all are clinically tested and shown to be safe and effective when used to temporarily diminish facial wrinkles and lines. Each has its own unique properties, and Dr. Cooper will help you to determine which will work best for your needs. How long it takes for the effect of the injections to appear and how long the results last differ slightly depending on the product used. There is also a slight difference in cost and dosing, which Dr. Cooper will go over with you.

What to Expect From Injectable Treatments

Cosmetic treatments with injectables are immensely popular because they are effective and require no downtime for recovery. Dr. Cooper typically makes a series of tiny injections into the different muscles which cause the dynamic wrinkles. The treatments themselves take less than a half-hour. The time it takes to start seeing the results varies, depending on the product used. BOTOX injections can take up to a week before you see full effects and the results last about 4 months. Dysport works in about 4 days and also lasts approximately 4 months. When administered by an experienced plastic surgeon such as Dr. Cooper, side effects are minimal and diminish within a day or 2. They include:

  • Swelling or bruising at the injection site
  • Headache

Although serious complications are rare, the risks increase when the treatments are administered by injectors who don’t have the qualifications or experience to use them effectively.
