The 5 Most Common Facelift Myths

When you’re looking for a hot new restaurant or a trendy place to shop, word of mouth can point you in the right direction. But if you’re looking for medical advice, this is where your friends may have it wrong. To learn what’s real and what isn’t about a facelift, the best place to learn is with a board-certified plastic surgeon.

As one of the top plastic surgeons in Jupiter and Palm Beach, FL, Harvard trained physician Dr. Jason Cooper hears misconceptions and myths about facelift surgery every day. So much, in fact, that we feel we need to set the record straight and debunk the five most popular facelift fallacies. Perhaps you may have heard one or two.

1. I’m Too Young for a Facelift

If you want to preserve your facial beauty, why wait? Aging signs can develop in your thirties, so it’s best to consider your surgical options early. Although dermal fillers and Botox are fantastic non-surgical choices, there will come a time when only surgery will provide the long-lasting results you want.

Patients experiencing moderate aging can also choose what we call a short scar or mini facelift. This procedure is less invasive and offers a quicker recovery than a traditional facelift. It can smooth over nasolabial folds, tighten jowls, and refresh the chin and jawline.

2. Facelifts are Only for Women

Facelifts are highly popular with women. But if women can age gracefully, why can’t men do the same? Although about 9 out of 10 facelift patients are women, the number of male patients is increasing by about three percent each year.

3. Facelift Requires a Long Recovery

A big concern for many women is that they don’t have enough time to heal after surgery. Getting back to work or their regular routine is critical. Dr. Cooper’s advanced techniques can dramatically reduce this downtime to between 10-14 days.

4. Facelift Results Look Unnatural

We’ve all seen the lampoons of actors and comedians portraying people who’ve had bad results. However, when you work with a highly trained and board-certified surgeon, this is almost never the case. Dr. Cooper’s cutting-edge surgical techniques deliver results that are subtle- not overdone or windblown. The comments you hear will not be about surgery, but about how fantastic you look!

5. Facelifts Only Lift Your Skin

This is probably the most prevalent of all modern-day facelift misconceptions. Dr. Cooper not only eliminates excess skin to produce a smoother texture, but he also meticulously repositions the underlying tissues as well. This method improves the facial contour that can make you look far younger. His facelifts are customized for your unique facial anatomy and the issues you want to resolve.
