What Are the Benefits of Having a Breast Lift with Breast Implant Removal?

Everyone wants to feel healthy and confident as they navigate personal decisions about their appearance. But when it comes to a woman’s breasts—one of the focal points of her femininity—this emotion intensifies. So, critical information about breast implant removal and what to do afterward is best discussed with professionals. Board-certified plastic surgeons with extensive experience in breast procedures are the best place to start.

So, when you decide to have your breast implants removed for aesthetic or lifestyle objectives, does the choice stop there? Will you replace them with new ones, or will you go with no implants at all? Whatever your decision, understand that Harvard-trained plastic surgeon Dr. Jason Cooper will ensure the best experience possible, and that often entails combining your breast implant removal with a breast lift.

Breast Implant Removal

Breast implant removal, or explant surgery, is a normal phase of having implants. Though silicone implants may last up to twenty years, eventually, they’ll need to be removed or exchanged.

Some women choose explant surgery to live without breast implants. This personal decision may stem from health concerns, lifestyle changes, or evolving aesthetic preferences.

There are two types of explant surgery performed by Dr. Cooper.

Capsulectomy

If there have been no complications involved with your breast implants, Dr. Cooper will perform an incision below your breasts to remove each implant. If you struggle with capsular contracture, a condition where the scar tissue around your implants is extraordinarily thick or rigid, Dr. Cooper will perform a capsulectomy, where the internal scar tissue is removed from the breasts to improve your breast aesthetics.

Keep in mind that the accumulation of this tissue is an expected, normal consequence after positioning any medical device. For example, pacemakers, joint replacements, and stents become encapsulated without detrimental effects on the patient.

En Bloc

An En bloc capsulectomy is a technique that removes the scar tissue capsule and the implant in one piece. This ensures that the entire capsule and implant material are removed from the body.

Combining Breast Lift with Implant Removal

Dr. Cooper may recommend a breast lift after your explant surgery to restore your youthful breast contours. A breast lift will reinforce your chest wall, remove excess skin, and reshape your areola/nipple complex if necessary to resolve sagging tissues. This operation can be combined with your implant removal surgery so that you won’t need multiple procedures. The benefits include:

  • Tightened breast tissue
  • Aesthetic and contoured appearance
  • Counteracting age-related skin sagging
  • Improved contour and revived youthful breast appearance
  • A boost in self-confidence and renewed femininity

An assessment of the benefits and risks of the surgery during your consultation with Dr. Cooper will help you decide if combining the two procedures is the correct fit for you.
