Injectables have taken the world by storm, the aesthetics world that is. Any early to moderate signs of aging previously required a surgical facelift to help reduce the appearance of these lines and wrinkles, but injectables are changing that approach. As we age, the skin around the eyes, nose, mouth, in the forehead and every area in the face, are affected by gravity and sun damage. The skin loses its strength and pliability as it starts to droop and sag, wrinkling and losing volume in certain areas; aging weakens the collagen and elastin fibers that were once vibrant and continually regenerating.
So Many Nonsurgical Options!
The sooner we catch these signs of aging as they start, the longer we can avoid facial plastic surgery to reverse the effects. Anti-aging injectable treatments are minimally invasive and can accomplish the reduction of these telltale signs before they become noticeable. At our practice, we bring our patients trending treatments that are proven to improve their quality of life and maximize their time. When any client comes in with specific concerns about wrinkles and degeneration in the skin, we recommend a series of facial injections that can slow or reverse these concerns. Since there are many options out there, we’ve narrowed it down a bit so that you can explore your choice of injectables.
What are these injectables and what do they treat?
Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin
These three injectables are a lifesaver for men and women that want to reduce their frown lines in the forehead area. No matter what you do, repetition of facial expressions such as concentration and concern can cause the glabellar muscle between the eyebrows to cause creases to form in the skin. The only way to reduce the visibility of these lines is the stop the muscle from contracting, and to allow the skin in this area to smooth over and relax a bit.
Botox is one of the most widely known anti-aging injectables for this issue and works by injection straight into this muscle to paralyze it for a 3-4 month period that is reversible. Botox also works on crow’s feet and the muscle responsible for them around the eyes with three injections in this area.
Dysport and Xeomin are new to the market but target the same muscle. Their chemical structure is much the same, except Xeomin lacks an extra protein that’s present in Botox. These all work to target glabellar lines. Each injection will depend on the physician and patient preference, but essentially five injections of either are done at five points in the brows. Dysport may feel more natural than Botox and Xeomin, but can also depend on your skin and severity of wrinkles. These injections last from 3-4 months on average.
Restylane, Voluma, Juvederm
For our clients that don’t feel comfortable with direct muscle injections to reduce wrinkles, we offer another set of injectables that works to fill the space between muscles and the skin. The reason wrinkles form in these areas is that contraction of the muscles weakens the skin and leaves a space between the layers, wrinkling of the skin happens. The injections are solutions that add volume to this space and smooth out wrinkles while invigorating collagen and elastin fibers for regrowth during their active period. These injections can also help to maintain hydrating throughout the skin.
Restylane, Juvederm, and Voluma target nasolabial folds, the lines that come down from the nose and glide to the corners of your mouth, as well as lifts and contours the cheeks. Restylane and Juvederm however also work to provide lip injections and produce volume in the lips that will accentuate the face. These injections last longer than the above muscle injections, usually 6-12 months.
