Kybella™

If you suffer from excess fat around the chin and neck but don’t want to undergo surgery to correct it, Kybella might be the solution for you. Many people suffer from excess fat in this area and have little luck losing it through diet and exercise. Until very recently, there have only been surgical ways to combat this. Kybella is the first of its kind to address this issue as an injectable with minor side effects.

What is Kybella?

Submental fullness, sometimes referred to as a “double chin”, is a common cosmetic concern that has been hard to treat in the past. This roundness can detract from an otherwise balanced facial appearance, making you look older and heavier. Kybella™ is the only FDA-approved injectable remedy that destroys fat cells to slim and improve the appearance of submental fullness. Once eliminated, those cells can no longer increase in size. This treatment can be customized by the physician to suit the patient’s aesthetic goals for an improved profile. Results are permanent, making the need for further treatment unlikely.

Is Kybella Right for You?

Kybella isn’t necessarily for everyone. In order for Kybella to work, the patient needs to have a certain level of skin elasticity. This may mean that Kybella will work better for those who are a little younger and have little to no loose skin. If the submental fullness that you are experiencing is a result of sagging skin, you will be better off looking into a neck lift or lower facelift for a better result. Kybella will not help the appearance of sagging skin or laxity.

What to Expect from Kybella Injections

For most patients, downtime with Kybella mainly consists of just a few days of swelling and redness which happens most often after the first treatment. The common side effects are some swelling, bruising, tenderness, redness, and hardened spots in the treatment area. The number of treatments needed will vary from patient to patient, often ranging from three to six treatments.
